The Xavier Interamen

The Xavier Prayer

After the letters of Saint Francis Xavier

Eternal God, You who count every soul of every far-flung shore —

Plunder my heart, that I may give it to the nations.

Loosen me from the comfort of my own country, my own tongue, my own hearth,

And make me a vessel, as You once made Francis Xavier a vessel —

Cross-bearing, salt-baptized, restless for the gospel's harvest.

I am not enough for this world; let grace be my compass, let the Cross my staff,

And let every mile of my going be a prayer for the not-yet-known.

Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
